II CONSTANTINE
1533/0/10024 WELL LANE 08-OCT-04 Disused drinking fountain opposite No.7
II Disused drinking fountain. Probably mid to late C19. Granite monolith set into a wall. It is a small (about 1 metre high) round-headed block of granite with a round-headed niche in the front. At the back of the niche a stopped pipe in place of the tap. Across the front of the niche a wrought iron bar.
This is one of a series of 6 surviving drinking fountains which supplied water to Constantine, piped from the top of the village. These fountains were installed to cope with the needs of the increasing population of the village due to the sucess of the nearby Wheal Vyvyan tin mine.
