785/0/10121 SOUTH HILL 02-FEB-05 Terrace wall, gazebo and pergola, Sira
GV II Terrace wall with gazebo and pergola. 1883, designed by Ernest Newton as part of Sitka and situated to the south east and north west of the main house. It comprises to the south east a low red brick terrace wall about two feet in height with brick modillion cornice and tiled coping, forming a semi-circular shape to the extreme south eastern end and a straight section to the north west, acting as a retaining wall in front of a steep slope. To the north west the wall increases in height to about eight feet, incorporating a square gazebo with pyramidal tiled roof to the north western corner, forming a curve to the north and straight section to the north east acting as the rear wall of a pergola of brick piers with curved wooden tiebeams and tiled path.
An original garden feature to a house built by Ernest Newton.
