War memorial. C.1920. Portland stone. Square pillar in section with stepped base and slightly flared to the lower body, the tablets to the front and sides project and are gently battered. There is slightly moulding to the corners at the top and cap is also stepped. The east front has lettering which reads: "1914 - 1918/THESE/MEN OF LAWFORD/GAVE THEIR LIVES/FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ [8 names]/THIS IS /THE RECORD/OF THEIR HONOUR/AND OF OUR/GRATITUDE" Beneath is a seperate inscription: "AND OF THE 1939-1945 WAR/ [5 names]". To the right and left reveals, and feintly legible, are inscribed the names of those who served in the First World War [left wall A-N, right wall O-Z]. The monument stands on a square plinthwhich is included in the listing. Surrounding this is cobbled paving and a series of traffic bollards which appear to have been placed in the mid-late C20 and are not included as part of this listing.
