of All Saints
GV
II
Monument. c.1800. Stone. A sandstone-paved raised plinth, approx. 2.5 x 5m., and formerly with railings, contains a chest tomb and a ledger slab. The chest tomb is of fine grained limestone, with shield-like panels on all sides, each surmounted by a swag. Corners have Gothick style narrow panels. Moulded plinth, and projecting coping below inscribed top slab. The shields contain inscriptions to members of the Gibson and Scase families including Barnabas Gibson, d.1792, his wife Martha, d.1803, Robert Scace, d.1841, his wife Charlotte, d.1840, and Gibson Harper Scace, d.1844.
This is a finely carved chest tomb which is part of a large family monument enclosure standing adjacent to the Church of All Saints (q.v.) with which it forms a significant group.
