Former Anglican church school, unoccupied at time of inspection (August 1991), converted to parish and community centre in 2001. Dated 1848. Ashlar sandstone with some rubble; rendered slate roof. 2 principal ranges aligned N/S with separate entrances for boys and girls with connecting subsidiary ranges, and an entrance curtain wall containing another entrance to Warrington Road. Single-storey throughout. N front (Warrington Road). 3:3:3, the outer bays the gabled ends to long ranges each with triple round-headed lancets, the connecting curtain wall with round-headed doorway flanked by lancets: 6 pilaster buttresses with top-weathering only. Moulded cornice (upstanding to centre to accommodate date plaque) and plinth return to both sides. To W, asymmetrical, 6 bays marked by pilaster buttresses, round-headed lancets except to left-of-centre entrance where cornice upstands as to N with stack over. NW corner canted. E elevation (to churchyard) with symmetrical 5-bay front similarly treated as to W but with gabled porch with round-headed doorway, all under upstanding cornice containing plaque and stack over. Rubble projection to left under catslide. Rear with plain rubble and some ashlar, not designed to be seen overall, the outer gables with moulded verge cornices. Plaques record involvement of T B Ingham MA (the incumbent) and his churchwardens. The school groups with St Anne's Church (ref. 7/44).
