Cartshed and granary. Mid C18. C20 exterior staircase.
MATERIALS: ground floor of Flemish bond brickwork, first floor timber framed, clad in weatherboarding with half-hipped peg-tiled roof.
PLAN FORM: open-ended cartshed with three bay granary above approached by external staircase.
EXTERIOR: the cartshed has a C20 brick staircase attached to the north west side providing access to the granary above. South east and north west elevations each have weatherboarded upper floors with C20 metal-framed windows; half hipped and tiled roof above. Open below with brick side walls.
INTERIOR: the cartshed has three semi-circular brick niches on each side. The granary is of three bays, plastered, with some of the original laths visible and retains wooden grain bins.
HISTORY: Oakhurst Farm was part of the Loxwood Hall estate and was a main steading which was from circa 1600 to 1900 in the ownership of the King Family. This building is shown on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1875.
STATEMENT OF IMPORTANCE: a mid C18 combined cartshed/granary of special architectural interest retaining grain bins and forming part of a mid C18 farmstead.
