GV II K6 Telephone kiosk located on The Street in Warham.
MATERIALS: Cast iron and glass.
DESCRIPTION: Constructed of cast iron and painted red overall. Square kiosk with domed roof, unperforated crowns to top panels and margin glazing to windows and doors.
HISTORY: The archetypal K6 was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (Battersea Power Station and Liverpool Anglican Cathedral) in 1935 to celebrate the jubilee of King George V.
This kiosk has group value with other listed buildings on The Street.
SUMMARY OF IMPORTANCE: This K6 has a close visual association with a number of Iisted buildings. It is an iconic example of industrial design, showing Giles Gilbert Scott's adaptation of Neoclassical forms for a modern technological function. This K6 is a good example of the type, having proximity and a good visual relationship with other listed buildings, in a central position on The Street, in a setting of special interest.
