Two terraces of houses. 1972-5 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor; site architect Vernon Gracie; structural engineer, White, Young and Partners; main contractor, Stanley Miller Ltd. Pale metric modular brick on timber frame, sloping metal vary-pitch roofs supported on plywood box beam purlins, projecting porches cased in brown-stained timber under metal roofs. Timber windows with aluminium sliding opening lights; some windows renewed all in timber. Interiors not inspected. Garages to the rear behind Nos. 1-5. Shipley Place stands at the main entrance through the Byker wall, linking the metro station with Raby Street, and is a prominent part of the composition.
