Gatepiers and Railings to St John's Churchyard from Bathwick Street
GV II
Gatepiers, gates and railings. Late C18. Bath stone ashlar and wrought iron. Pair of gatepiers with corniced heads at entrance to footpath from Bathwick Street. Left hand pier attached to wrought iron railing on dwarf stone base running beside footpath to entrance to Old Vicarage, now Brompton House Hotel (qv). Railing fronts the old Bathwick Burial Ground. Standard late C18 type with alternate forked and single standards (compare those at St James's Square). Similar pair of double gates at entrance to Burial Ground.
