No. 7 and attached railings (Formerly Listed as: LANSDOWN ROAD (East side) Ainslie's Belvedere Nos. 2-9 (consec)) 05/08/75

House. c1780. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front and rear, rubble below basement windows; double pile parapeted roof, artificial slate to front, covering not visible to rear, has single large right end stack with early clay pots against flank wall of No. 5 Ainslie's Belvedere (qv). Staircase to front. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, basement and sub-basement; two-window front. First floor has two plate glass horned sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills; second floor has two similar windows. Ground floor has one similar window with C20 balconette to right, to left five-panel door with flush reeded and fielded panels with lion's mask knocker in stone doorcase with cyma moulded architrave in flat surround with heavy moulded console brackets supporting moulded cornice forming hood over. Pennant paved crossover flush with pavement. Basement has six/six sash in plain reveal with stone sill; C20 door in plank screen under crossover. Band course over ground floor; moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet. Rear elevation has plate glass horned sash with border glazing to ground floor and first floor, two two/two sashes to second floor, casement window to basement, C20 conservatory to sub-basement. INTERIOR: Not inspected. Noted as having dog-leg staircase with two turned balusters to a tread and shaped cheek-pieces. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings with shaped heads on limestone bases. HISTORY: Dated by Ison to 1780, the Bath Chronicle reported an `Auction of the estate known as Ainslies's Belvedere, being 6 substantial dwelling houses' on 27.11.1794. A William Ainslie was one of the original lessees of a house in The Circus.
