Overview

A milestone dating from the early-to-mid-C19, a monolithic granite marker circa 75cm high which is rectangular on plan, with a round arched top. The stone has traces of white paint, and is inscribed B / 8, to mark the distance to Bodmin. The lettering retains remains of black paint.

II A milestone dating from the early-to-mid-C19, a monolithic granite marker circa 75cm high which is rectangular on plan, with a round arched top. The stone has traces of white paint, and is inscribed B / 8, to mark the distance to Bodmin. The lettering retains remains of black paint. HISTORY: The Bodmin Turnpike Trust was set up by Act of Parliament in 1769 to improve the "roads into Bodmin"; the road is now the modern B3266, providing a link between Bodmin and Camelford.

REASONS FOR DESIGNATION DECISION: The milestone east of Michaelstow Junction (NGR SX0741277491) is designated at Grade II, for the following principal reasons: * The milestone is an intact example of an early-to-mid-C19 milestone, which is in its original position and retains its carved inscription * Group value with the other listed milestones of the same type along this turnpike route
