PERRYMEAD 656-1/56/538 (North side) Woodbine Cottage 05/08/75 II
Detached house. Late C18, with late C19 and C20 alterations. MATERIALS: Painted limestone ashlar, slate roof. PLAN: Complex three-part plan, with hipped narrow range to left, gable to road, broad hipped centre section with entrance and staircase, and narrow end bay with canted outer end, to right. EXTERIOR: Road front has three small lights to left, large twelve-pane sash, and an original six-panel door with transom light under flat stone hood on pilasters and deep consoles. Set back end bay has small oculus at ground floor, and three splayed faces have blind lights, section has broad mid band, carried round bay, where `WOODBINE COTTAGE¿ incised in bold Roman lettering, and cornice with blocking course and parapet. Return to left has two close-set plain sashes above doorway and various additions. Garden front, facing north, set to narrow terrace, at left hand end are paired lights at each level, to ground floor as French casements, stair light with coloured glass and two plain sashes above French casement with transom light. Main units have high-hipped roofs, and large stack in valley between them, with further stack to outer end of canted bay. INTERIOR: Ground floor only inspected. Retains tight well stick-baluster staircase with wreathed handrail, panelled doors, and fine panelled shutters to some windows.
