BEAUFORT WEST (West side) No.18 (Formerly Listed as: ST SAVIOURS ROAD (South side) No.18 Beaufort West) 05/08/75
GV II
House, formerly a pub, on the corner of Beaufort Place and St Saviours Road with an entrance in Beaufort Place. c1818, with a C20 extension to the left. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate mansard roof with a moulded ridge stack. PLAN: Double depth. EXTERIOR: Two storeys; two window front. Returned coped parapet and cornice; the entrance facade has six/six pane sash windows to the first floor, a semicircular arched recess to the right of centre; an oculus with radial glazing bars over a garage door to the left; a six panel door glazed to the top; to the right is a small high three pane shop window with a small cornice on consoles. The right return in St Saviours Road has a stepped parapet, two eight/eight pane sash windows to each floor, those to the first floor have segmental plan cast iron balconettes with lead ornaments, that to the ground floor left has horns. INTERIOR: Not inspected, but recorded by the Bath Preservation Trust; this records the survival of some six panel doors and some reeded plasterwork. HISTORY: This was `The Queen¿ pub from c1830-1920 and was later called Worcester Cottage.
