PRINCES STREET 656-1/40/1272 (East side) Nos.8 AND 9 Beauford House (Formerly Listed as: PRINCE'S STREET (East side) Beaufort Arms Public House) 05/08/75

GV II

Commercial building, formerly partly public house. Later C19 and C20. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, rubble gable ends, slate roof. PLAN: Wide and deep double depth property with central valley gutter, left hand end exposed to car park area. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, three+three windows , all glazing bar sashes in plain reveals, nine-pane above twelve-pane, with to ground floor, left, former pub front in four-bays with heavy Ruskinian pilasters, fascia and dentil cornice over paired and single lights with transom, and C19 four-panel door, blocked doorway to right. Remaining three-bays have two twelve-pane sashes and six-panel door with shallow four-pane transom light, on two steps. Platband above first floor, eaves band. Return double gabled plain end, and rear, in ashlar, has some plain sash. INTERIOR: Not inspected. Former list refers to windows without glazing bars, and ground floor right half has been restructured. Included for group value.
