GV II
Semi-detached villa. c1830-1840. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roof. PLAN: Compact symmetrical block with low-pitched hipped roof, and porch to sides. EXTERIOR: Two storeys, each one window, and with central blind panel at first floor, all plain sashes, with sliding Venetian blinds, and with square sills on square brackets. No.49 has paired sashes to central stone mullion at ground floor. Slightly recessed central bay, plain eaves band, deep eaves with rafter brackets, and central ashlar stack. To left first floor sash, above single storey hipped porch with panelled door under tent hood, and with two windows on return wall, behind main range wing, painted. To right two storey square porch, in plain ashlar, with door to right, and with small arched lights in returns, and deep low gabled wing to rear. INTERIOR: Not inspected. HISTORY: One of series of similar but slightly varied villas in this stretch of road, do not appear on Prior Park estate map of 1828, but are mentioned in the Bath Guide of 1853.
