BELVEDERE (East side) Nos. 27A and 27B (½) (Formerly Listed as: LANSDOWN ROAD (East side) Nos. 27A, 27½ and 28-30 (consec) Belvedere)

Two shops with accommodation over. Late C18, shop front of c1868, with C20 alterations. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, painted to left side; double pile parapeted roof, concrete tile to front and rear, with large ashlar stack against flank wall of No.28 Belvedere adjoining (qv). Staircase to rear. EXTERIOR: Three storeys and basement; two window front. First floor has two plate glass sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, to right with wrought iron balconette; second floor has two similar windows with wrought iron balconettes. Ground floor has pair of c1868 shopfronts projecting from building and with felt roof, to left (No.27A) largely retaining glazing bars, to right (No.27B) plate glass, two doors to centre, to left four pane to right two pane with moulded panels and plate glass overlights, boarded stall risers, in surround with five pilasters to front supporting entablature. Painted sign over and between first floor windows, directly onto the ashlar front, consists of good quality (but worn) lettering spelling BOSLEY/SLATER PLASTERER/HOUSE SIGN/AND DECORATIVE/PAINTER/GLAZIER. Left side has six panel door with flush beaded and fielded panels and cast iron lion's mask knocker in plain reveal with tent hood over, six/six sash in plain reveal to ground floor, two small C20 windows to first floor. Rear elevation has full height canted bay with C19 and C20 windows, to first floor with wrought iron balconettes one opening blocked. Small ashlar extension. INTERIOR: Not inspected. SOURCES: G.
