GV II

House, now shop and flats. c1754. Shop front c1855, by JS Frampton, Builders. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, right side and rear, rubble to left side; parapeted roof, double Roman tiles to front, side and rear, is hipped to rear of long range, one ashlar stack without pots to front right, large stack rising from wall to left. EXTERIOR: Three storeys and basement; three window front. First floor has three six/six horned sashes in cyma moulded architraves with stone sills with wrought iron balconettes and floating cornices over. Second floor has three similar windows in cyma moulded architraves with stone sills. Ground floor has to right two light shop window in timber surround with pilasters, frieze and bracketed cornice, to left eight panel door with reeded panels and fielded panels with voided corners with single pane overlight in plain reveals with C20 tent hood. Basement has window to right with glass blocks in pavement. Band course over ground floor; modillion eaves cornice and coped parapet continuous with No.35 Belvedere (qv). Parapet has on plinth to left end large stone sphinx. Lead hopperhead at eaves to right feeds into downpipe to No.35 Belvedere. Rear elevation has full height canted bay with six/six sashes to first floor, plate glass to second floor, six/six and plate glass sashes to right side. Lead hopperheads and downpipes to rear and right side. INTERIOR: Not inspected. HISTORY: Formerly part of a larger house, together with Nos.35 and 36: this house probably retains the service rooms and secondary stairs of the house. SOURCES: G.
