BELVEDERE PLACE No. 1 and attached railings (Formerly Listed as: MORFORD STREET Nos. 10-22 (consec) and No. 1 Belvedere Place) 11/08/72

House, now flats. c1775-1789 with C20 alterations. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front to Morford Street, rubble to basement, ashlar to entrance front to right side to Lansdown Road; double pile parapeted mansard roof, hipped to right, Welsh Slate to front and rear, with coped party wall to left with two ashlar stacks with some early clay pots. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement; single bay three window front to Morford Street. First floor has Venetian window with plate glass sashes in plain reveals with bold keystone to centre light with continuous stone sill and wrought iron balconette. Second floor has three grouped windows, narrower to left and right, with six/six sash to centre flanked by eight pane fixed lights in plain reveals with continuous stone sill. Ground floor has to left plate glass sash in plain reveal with stone sill, single light casement in plain reveal with stone sill with small timber hood on brackets over in position of probable former doorway. Basement has two blocked windows, blocked doorway under crossover, no area steps. Double dormer with plate glass horned sashes. Plinth; band course over ground floor; moulded eaves cornice. Entrance front to Lansdown Road has two six/six horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills with similar blind window to centre; second floor has two similar sashes and similar blind window; ground floor has two similar sashes flanking six panel door with flush moulded and fielded parcels in plain reveal with C20 hood over. Single dormer with plate glass sash. Band course over ground floor, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet continued from front to Morford Street. Rear elevation has six/six sashes, to first floor with horns, plate glass sash to single dormer, C20 alterations to basement. INTERIOR: Not inspected, noted as having undergone alterations during conversion to flats. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped heads on limestone bases.
