LARK PLACE Nos.1-9 (Consec) (Formerly Listed as: UPPER BRISTOL ROAD Lark Place Nos 1-9 (consec))

05/08/75 II

Terrace of houses. c1840. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar with triple Roman tile roofs, some are concrete. PLAN: Double depth plan with doors to right except No.9. EXTERIOR: Two storeys, two windows each, all six/six-sashes in plain frames. Doors are four-panel in plain recessed frames. First floor sill band, cornice, parapet. These are continuous to Nos 1-5, stepped up. The name of the row is inscribed in sunken lettering on the sill band of No.5. Double roof, ashlar stack to left of each house on party wall, except for No.9. Rear elevation not seen. INTERIORS: Not all inspected, the stairs of Nos 1 and 5 have Doric newels with square banisters. HISTORY: A well-preserved row of modest houses on the outskirts of the city, still very much in the late Georgian tradition. The row is marked on Hayward's 1852 plan of the City of Bath. It has undergone sympathetic restoration in recent times.
