Three houses in short terrace. c1771. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, double Roman tile roofs. PLAN: Small narrow court with houses on three sides, off New King Street. EXTERIOR: Two storeys attic and basement, two and three windows wide, all twelve-pane sashes in plain reveals. Mansard roof has two twelve-pane sash dormers each to Nos 6 and 7, but No.5 narrower, in only two bays, and without dormer. No.6 has glazed area in pavement for basement. Each has to left six-panel door under flat stone hood on brackets. Platband above ground floor immediately over continuous wood lintel, and small cavetto cornice, slightly stepped down at six/seven, with deep blocking course and parapet. To right of each coped party division with ashlar stack. INTERIORS: Not inspected, but reported as having panelled partition walls and some stone fireplaces. These houses, part of a group looking onto a stone-flagged courtyard, have been fully restored (by Aaron Evans, architect in 1983-84) having been in poor condition. Part of a notable survival of artisanal housing, laid out around a close. SOURCE: Bath City Council planning file.
