GV II

Ten terrace shops stepped uphill from No.1 to right. Late C19 with C20 additions. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, roofs unseen. PLAN: Double depth plans. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, each shop is two window front. Coped parapets, cornices and ground floor cornices, returned to right, sweep up to left of each facade. Plate glass sash windows in moulded architraves, those to first floor have shallow aprons, moulded sills and pulvinated friezes to cornices. Shopfronts are articulated by Tuscan pilasters on moulded plinths with reeded scroll consoles to cornice. No.1 has canted corner, shopfronts and doorway, flanked by pilasters, are filled in with ashlar with two windows to front, one to canted corner and C20 door to right return. No.2 has set back half-glazed central door and original curved plate glass shop windows. No.3 has C20 shopfront. No.4 narrower, similar to No.2 with an ashlar plinth below the sills. Original shopfront. No.5 is similar to No.2. Original shopfront. No.6 is one-window range with half-glazed door to left. Nos 5 and 6 are not separated by pilasters. Original shopfront. No.7 has C20 shopfront. No.8 has one-window range with alley-way to ground floor between Nos 7 and 8. Nos 9 (one-window range) and 10 (two-window range) are one C20 shop. INTERIORS: Not inspected.
