GV II

House. c1809. MATERIALS: Squared limestone rubble rendered to ground floor, double pitched slate roof with moulded stacks to right return. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, three-window range. Two six/six-pane sash windows to second floor, three four/four-pane sashes to first floor (paired to right), and one to right of ground floor with some crown glass. Slightly left-of-centre enclosed stone porch with consoles carrying a moulded cornice. Rear windows replaced with six/six and four/four -pane sash windows in 1989. INTERIOR: Not inspected but noted as having six-panel doors and closed string staircase with turned balusters. HISTORY: Deeds reveal that this house was built in 1809 as an addition to a house of c1792, and was formerly known as No.6 Sion Place; first occupied by Mary Oates, widow. Older east wing was demolished in mid-C20 and rebuilt; house split in two in 1972. SOURCE: Bath Preservation Trust, Interiors Survey 1987.
