BRUNSWICK PLACE No.2 and attached railings (Formerly Listed as: JULIAN ROAD (South side) Nos 1-6 (consec) Brunswick Place) 11/08/72

House, now flats. c1783 with C19 alterations. Developed by John Fielder and Thomas and James Beale; built by James Broom (e). MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, rear elevation not visible; double pile parapeted mansard roof, artificial slate to front, not visible to rear, with coped party wall to left with ashlar stack to front roof, not visible to rear. PLAN: Brunswick Place quasi-symmetrical composition with terminating pavilions breaking forward to left and right (Nos 1 and 6) and horizontal elements of design continuous throughout (cf. Burlington Place qv). Staircase to front. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, three window front. First floor has three plate glass horned sashes in splayed reveals. Second floor has three six/six sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills. Ground floor has to left two six/six sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills to right six panel door with flush, fielded and single glazed panel with one Pennant step in beaded reveal with timber pedimented Ionic doorcase probably re-used with stone plinth blocks making up height of fluted pilasters. Small circular opening now blocked to right of front door, one step to Pennant paved crossover. Basement has two six/six sashes in splayed reveals with continuous stone sill, door under crossover not visible, limestone area steps with Pennant treads. Double dormer with six/six sashes. Band course over ground floor; weathered sill band to first floor; bracketed eaves cornice and coped parapet. Rear elevation not visible. INTERIOR: Not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped heads on painted limestone bases.
