House, now flats. c1783 with C19 and C20 alterations. Developed by John Fielder and Thomas and James Beale.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, rubble below basement windows, not visible to rear; double pile parapeted mansard roof, artificial slate to front, not visible to rear, with ashlar left-end stack with early clay pots to front roof back to back with large stack to No.5 Brunswick Place (qv), not visible to rear.
PLAN: Brunswick Place quasi-symmetrical composition with terminating pavilions breaking forward to left and right (Nos 1 and 6) and horizontal elements of design continuous throughout (cf. Burlington Place qv). Staircase to front.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, two window front. First floor has two plate glass horned sashes in splayed reveals; second floor has two similar sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills. Ground floor has to left plate glass horned sash in splayed reveal with stone sill, to right C19 ashlar porch built out over crossover has six panel door, probably original to house, with flush beaded and fielded panels with cast iron lion's mask knocker with single pane overlight and Pennant step in plain reveal, with small tilting window in plain reveal with stone sill to right. Porch has plinth, moulded cornice and blocking course with wrought iron balustrade, porch blind to left and right sides, with cornice returned to left only. Basement has two six/six sashes in splayed reveals with continuous stone sill, C20 door with overlight infilling under crossover, no area steps. Double dormer with six/six sash to left, two/two sash to right. Band course over ground floor, weathered sill band to first floor; bracketed eaves cornice and coped parapet. Lead hopperhead at eaves to right.
Rear elevation not visible.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped heads on limestone bases.
