House, now flats. c1783 with C19 and C20 alterations. Developed by John Fielder and Thomas and James Beale. MATERIALS: limestone ashlar to front, rubble below basement windows, not visible to rear; double pile parapeted mansard roof breaking forward further to front left, Welsh Slate to front, not visible to rear, with large ashlar stack with early clay pots to front slope of front roof to right, not visible to rear; coped party wall to left adjoining No.6 Brunswick Place (qv). PLAN: Brunswick Place quasi-symmetrical composition with terminating pavilions breaking forward to left and right (Nos 1 and 6) and horizontal elements of design continuous throughout (cf. Burlington Place qv). Two bay house of which bay to left is in pavilion to left end of terrace. Staircase to front. EXTERIOR: three storeys, attic and basement, two-window front. First floor has to left six/six horned sash in plain reveal, to right plate glass horned sash in plain reveal with splayed jambs. Second floor has to left six/six horned sash in plain reveal with splayed jambs with stone sill. Ground floor has to right plate glass horned sash in splayed reveal with stone sill, to left four-panel door, probably originally six-panel, with flush beaded and glazed panels, with two Pennant steps in pedimented Doric doorcase. Basement has two plate glass sashes in splayed reveals with continuous stone sill, no opening under crossover, no area steps. Single dormer with C20 window, single pane window in right side return of projecting bay to left. Band course over ground floor, weathered sill band to first floor, bracketed eaves cornice and coped parapet. Lead hopperhead and downpipe in angle. Rear elevation not visible. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURE: attached wrought iron railings with shaped heads with lifting section and attached crane on limestone bases.
