DEVONSHIRE BUILDINGS (South side) Nos.6 AND 7 with boundary wall and gate piers (Formerly Listed as: DEVONSHIRE BUILDINGS Nos. 1-15 AND 17-21 (Consec)) 05/08/75
GV II
Pair of terrace houses. c1804 with late C19 alterations. Possibly by Charles Harcourt Masters. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, concrete tile roofs. PLAN: Double depth plan, entered from south, but with principal elevation and garden to north. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, two windows, all plain sashes, second floor single and three tripartite sashes, above single arched and three Venetian windows. Ground floor has single sash, late C20 extension, paired sashes and two French doors with transom lights. Frieze, cornice, blocking course and parapet to gabled roofs with copings and small centre stack. Rear has narrow added wing to left of No. 6 with single, paired and tripartite sash and panelled door in arched opening. Set back, has plain sashes to No.6 and casements to No. 7, with glazed door with margin panes. INTERIORS: Not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Across full width of north side ashlar boundary wall with high rusticated piers to cappings, square urns to No. 6 and round urns to No. 7. Lower wall also returns at party divisions. Part of very long speculative row, with many variations, but retaining substantial original detailing, especially to north elevations.
