GV II
Five terrace houses on site that slopes to rear and backs onto the Kennet and Avon Canal. Mid/late C19. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, single pitched slate roofs with dormers and moulded stacks to left gable end and alternate coped party walls; almost unaltered feature of cream crown-topped chimney pots. PLAN: Double depth plans. EXTERIOR: Each house of two storeys, with a two-bay front to street. Fretted bargeboards to gabled dormer of each house; stop-chamfered arrises and bracketed sills to plate glass sash windows; ground floor platband that encircles block; cornices on elaborate consoles over six-panel doors and overlights. Rear, or canal side elevations are more architectural: the houses at either end of the row have hipped roofs over full-height rectangular bays; the three central houses have similar but canted bays, all with sill bands and plate glass sash windows. INTERIORS: Not inspected.
