Pair of houses. Early C19. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roof. PLAN: Single depth wide frontage houses with added, set back bay at each end, steeply sloping site generates extra storey to rear of property. EXTERIOR: Three storeys plus lower ground floor, each two windows, all twelve-pane sashes in plain reveals. No.47 has basement area. No.49 glazed laylight to basement. Six-panel doors under segmental head with swagged fanlight, keystone, sunk surround, but has two glazed panels, and fanlight is painted in, small sidelights, flat hood on shaped wood brackets and with carved barge board. Two platbands, cornice, blocking course and parapet, central ashlar stack. To left two storey wing with slate mansard roof having large twelve-pane dormer, and area to lower ground floor wide glazed fill to broad segmental arch. Rear in four floors. Each house single windowed, mainly sixteen-pane sashes in deep reveals, but No.49 has French doors to balcony with railing. Three platbands and parapet. End gables plain, in coursed squared stone, with parapets. INTERIORS: Not inspected.
