Pair of houses. Early C19. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roofs. EXTERIOR: Single depth house with hipped roof, slightly set back wings with entrance doors, steeply sloping site generates extra storey to rear of property. Two storeys plus lower ground floor, each one window, and with central blind light. sixteen-pane sashes with segmental heads, in double-sunk surrounds, lower ground floor lights enclosed by railed areas. Stone moulded eaves band with brackets, large central ashlar stack, forward of ridge, coped party division. To each side six-panel door with transom light, in segmental head with double sunk surround, moulded band, swept up to main range, left gable has central first floor sash. No.57, to right, has similar door and band, wing raised in ashlar, with twelve-pane sash. Returns to plain parapeted end facing Forefield Rise, drooping rapidly downhill, with door to pavement at lower end. Rear in ashlar, one:three:one windows, but centre unit blind at each floor, mainly sixteen-pane sash, but twelve-pane sash in extended wing to No.55. INTERIORS: Not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Each end of frontage square ashlar pier with pyramid capping, simple railings returned to fronts at party division, full width spear head railings, levelled across slope to ashlar dwarf wall from approx 1.2m to 0.5m high, with small iron gate at each end.
