GV II
Raised pavement and associated railings, lamp standards and gatepiers raised on sub-structure. c1820 for the Bathwick Estate. Limestone rubble, pennant stone paving, wrought iron railings with moulded points and freestone gatepiers. Pavement, approx 200m long and approx 3m high at centre, ramps up from gabled piers at each end. At north end five lamp standards with curved supports springing from surface of wall below. Group value with the gatepiers and walls to the gardens of Nos 1-20 Darlington Place (qv). A late example of the Bath tradition of raised pavements, forming a promenade overlooking the new development of Sydney Buildings, and views beyond.
