House, now flats. c1777-1784 with C19 alterations. By John Wood the Younger. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, ashlar and rubble to rear. Double pile parapeted mansard roof, Welsh Slate to front and rear, coped party walls to left and right with ashlar stacks with some early clay pots to left front and rear shared with No.3 Catharine Place (qv), to right front shared with No.1 Catharine Place (qv). PLAN: House of L-plan interlocking with No.1 Catharine Place (qv) six bays to front, two bays to rear, staircase to rear. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, six-window range. First floor has six plate glass horned sashes in splayed ovolo moulded architraves with friezes and cornices and moulded stone sills on console brackets. Second floor has six similar sashes in splayed ovolo moulded architraves with stone sills. Ground floor has five similar sashes in splayed reveals with stone sills with wrought iron balconettes, door to centre left eight-panel with fielded panels and single glazed panel, with cast iron lion's mask knocker, with one inlaid marble step in stone doorcase with cyma moulded architrave and moulded cornice on console brackets forming hood, one step to crossover paved with encaustic tiles. Basement has four six/six sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, half glazed nine-pane door under crossover, further pennant paved bridge over area to left of crossover, limestone area steps. Two double dormers with plate glass sashes. Band course over ground floor; modillion eaves cornice and coped parapet. Lead hopperhead and downpipe shared with No.1 Catharine Place (qv). Rear elevation has parapeted ashlar extension up to second half landing off staircase, paired two/two sashes to right, lead hopperhead at eaves to left. INTERIOR: Partially inspected by Bath Council 1979. Elaborate cornices and mouldings in the ground floor front room. Central sideboard alcove with elliptical arch and plastered soffits. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate with shaped heads on limestone bases.
