GV II

Thirteen terrace houses stepped uphill from No.1 to right. c1830. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, Nos 2, 3, 3A , 4, 6, 7, and 13 painted on ground floor, roofs unseen, moulded stacks to party walls. PLAN: Double depth plans. EXTERIOR: Three storeys and basements, each house has two-window front. Coped parapets, cornices and lintel friezes, first floor sill bands and plinths pierced by upper parts of eight/eight-pane sash windows to basements. Six/six-pane sash windows to upper floors, eight/eight-pane sashes to ground floors. Plain openings to set back six-panel doors and narrow overlights (except No.11 which has C20 door). Between Nos 4 and 5 are double doors to former carriage entrance. HISTORY: Nos. 2 and 3 were the Adelaide P.H. in 1833: named after William IV's queen, this would have formed a pair of pubs with the William IV lying across the street. INTERIORS: Not inspected.
