Shops with accommodation over. c1806, altered late C19. Building probably supervised by City Architect John Palmer, but to earlier (c1791) elevational designs by Thomas Baldwin. MATERIALS: Painted Bath limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs, largely hidden from street. PLAN: Single depth plan, back-to-back with Nos 18 and 19 Union Street and probably built together with them. EXTERIOR: Three storeys and attics, three windows wide. Ground floor has late C19 shopfronts of good character. No.7 also has passageway continuing The Corridor through to right, with c1900 shop window also looking into this. No.6 has double fronted shopfront, with six panel door on right and plain door on left giving access to upper floors, these framed by panelled Corinthian pilasters. Deep fascias. Windows above are all six/six sashes in plain reveals except centre one on second floor blind recess. Cornice, parapet, mansard roof with two flat-topped dormers to each house. No.7 has C19 gas lamp and bracket projecting over archway. INTERIORS: Not inspected. HISTORY: Undertaken as part of the scheme of improvement for the City centre following the Bath Improvement Act of 1789. Union Passage is a street line known to survive from the Saxon period; previously Cox Lane, it is shown on Smith's Map of 1588. No.6 was listed on 5th August 1975.
