ENTRY HILL (West side) Nos.27-47 (Odd) with retaining wall and steps (Formerly Listed as: ENTRY HILL Nos.25-45 (Odd)) 05/08/75
GV II
Eleven stepped terrace houses. Early C19 with C20 alterations. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, concrete tile roofs, original slate remains to Nos. 27, 29 and 39. PLAN: Gabled wide-span houses, paired, with central fireplace wall between pairs, and doors to outer party-walls, Nos. 27 and 29, and Nos. 31 and 33 are paired, with horizontal eaves, remainder are stepped up at each party division. EXTERIOR: Two storeys, each single window, mainly plain sash, some replacements. No. 27 has original twelve-pane sash window, and early panelled doors to all except Nos. 37, 43 and 45. No. 47 not part of main terrace, set at right angles, gable to road, in squared rubble, with plain replaced sash at each level above plank door to basement, both gables are coped. Main terrace has ashlar stack in front of and behind ridge, shared to each pair, with coped party divisions, except between Nos. 27 and 29, and Nos. 31 and 33. End gable, to right(north) plain. Rear not inspected. INTERIORS: Not inspected. No. 27 and 29 partially inspected by Bath Council 1981. No. 27 has original stone Tudor style fireplace. No. 31 original four-panel doors and old range on ground floor. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Across whole terrace, approx 1.5m forward from frontage, low wall in squared stone block, with plain square flush coping, stepped with house fronts. Each house has short flight of turned steps, parallel with frontage, to shared landing except at ends, steps vary from four to eight, and far left hand end, at long return to No. 47, longer flight, to rear of property.
