Flanking entrance to New Bond Street Place. Shops with accommodation over. c1825 with C20 additions. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, with roofs not visible from street. PLAN: Single depth plan with splayed corners. EXTERIOR: Splayed corner house with Greek Revival elements. Three storeys. Three window front to No.11, four to No.12; all windows are six/six sashes in architrave surrounds, with cornices on consoles to first floor; top floor of No.12 has plain late C19 plate glass sashes; frieze, crowning cornice and blocking course, stone stacks with pots. No.11 has good 1919 shopfront with fascia by the City Architect A.J. Taylor: this called for the reduction in size of the corner's first floor window, which was replaced with a near-square opening with Roman-inspired glazing. No.12 has a late C20 `Victorian' style shopfront. INTERIORS: Not inspected, shops modernised. HISTORY: The Council agreed to the formation of New Bond Street Place on 26th July 1824. It continued the line of the Saxon Union Passage through and beyond the City wall. SOURCES: Graham Finch, 'Shopfront Record' (Bath City Council 1992).
