Details
UPPER BRISTOL ROAD (North Side) LOCKSBROOK CEMETERY 656-1/0/0 Gate Piers and Boundary Walls
II
Hickes and Isaac, architects. Pennant Stone with Bath Stone dressings. Front gates of ornamental cast iron hung on octagonal stone piers over square bases, with a cusped gablet to each face; smaller upper sections with moulded capitals; wrought and cast iron finials with pendulous stems. Low wall to either side with gabled coping, with regularly spaced piers embellished with gabled fronts and sides; iron railings removed. HISTORY: Opened as the Walcot Cemetery, and occupying twelve acres of high ground to the north-west of the City, this was laid out to the designs of Mr Milner, best known for laying out the grounds at Crystal Palace, South London. The structures were designed by the busy Bath firm of Hickes and Isaac. The railings were almost certainly removed during the Second World War drive for salvage.
