House, remodelled to form entrance to corn market. c1770 with alterations of 1855 by GP Manners.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar with rubblestone right return, double pitched roof, slate to front with dormer and double Roman tiles to rear with moulded stack to right.
PLAN: Double depth plan.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, symmetrical two-window front. Coped parapet and cornice, six/six-pane sash windows, those to first floor in moulded architraves with pediments, tall three-panel double doors have lozenge panes to overlights and moulded shouldered architrave with wide pediment on consoles, lintel inscribed `CORN MARKET', moulded plinth. Ashlar left return has three gables with six/six-pane sash window to centre of each floor, lead rainwater downpipe, flying gutter from front parapet to rear and moulded string course over first floor. Rubblestone rear has two three/six-pane sash windows, coved cornice and moulded string course over first floor.
INTERIOR: Not inspected. Photographs of 1973 (Bath Preservation Trust) record the survival of several plaster cornices and a fire surround to a front room entirely consistent with a c1770 date.
