Former bakery with shops to front. Dated 1903. By Alfred J Taylor. MATERIALS: Random limestone rangework with freestone dressings to front, rubblestone to left return, double Roman tile roof. PLAN: Deep irregular plan. EXTERIOR: Two storeys, symmetrical seven-window front in a Cotswold Baroque style. Coped parapet, cornice, first floor sill band and ground floor cornice that rises over segmental pediment on consoles to centre. Square stone mullioned and transomed windows to first floor, two similar taller windows to each side of double three-panel doors are flanked by shops with half glazed set back doors with overlights. INTERIORS: Now a shoe shop; much altered on ground floor. Upper floors not inspected. HISTORY: This was one of a chain of Red House Bakeries in Bath dating from the early part of the C20. Particularly notable among them is Nos.8 and 9 New Bond Street (qv) also designed by Taylor.
