Terrace house, now flats. c1790-1793 with C19 and C20 alterations. By John Palmer. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, right side and rear, partially painted, Welsh slate parapeted mansard roof, hipped to right, coped party wall to left with single large ashlar stack shared with No.11 Marlborough Street (qv). PLAN: Building at junction of Marlborough Street and Julian Road is wider to front with splayed corner to right to Julian Road junction, staircase to front right. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and basement, two-bay four-window front. First floor has to left Venetian window with plate glass horned sash to right. Second floor has to left three grouped plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with continuous stone sill, similar sash to right. Ground floor has to left eight/eight horned sash in splayed reveal with stone sill, to right six-panel door with beaded, fielded and glazed panels and C19 brass door furniture in pedimented Doric doorcase with one concrete paved step. Opening to basement below ground floor window infilled with glass bricks. Double dormer with plate glass sashes. Timber bressumer over ground floor left, stone band course over ground floor with iron strap over, frieze, moulded eaves cornice and coped parapet, lead hopperhead to right. Band course, frieze, cornice and parapet continued to blind splayed corner to right, right side to Julian Road has plate glass horned sash in plain reveal with stone sill to first floor, similar large and small window to second floor, two similar glazing bar sashes to ground floor, two small openings to basement, band course over ground floor with iron strap over, small eaves cornice and coped parapet. Rear elevation has C19 and C20 sashes, iron strap over ground floor. INTERIOR: Not inspected. Part of incomplete St James's Square development on land leased by Fielder, King, Hewlett and Broom from Sir Peter Rivers Gay 25 March 1790; Marlborough Street forms one of the four diagonal approaches to St James's Square.
