NORTH PARADE No.5 (Formerly Listed as: NORTH PARADE Nos.2-6 (Consec)) 12/06/50
GV II*
House. 1740, restored and altered mid-C20. By John Wood the Elder. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roof. PLAN: Double depth plan, but has no windows on rear elevation, forms square block with No.6 North Parade and No.12 Pierrepont Street. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and cellar. Three windows wide. Platband at first floor level, house seems originally to have been part of five-bay house (with No.6 qv) with central entrance, with facade set slightly forward of Nos 2-4 as end piece to terrace, probably divided in early C19. Ground floor has six-panel door to left, with rectangular early C19 light over, two windows, six/six sashes, divided by stone mullion, with panelled apron below. First floor has two windows in plain architraves with cornice heads, six/nine sashes with dropped sills. Second floor has three/six late C18 type sashes in original openings. Dentil cornice, parapet, mansard roof with three flat topped six/six dormers, ashlar ridge stack. INTERIOR: Not inspected. HISTORY: House forms part of the uncompleted John Wood scheme for the Abbey Orchard, 1740-1748.
