The Woodlands 05/08/75 II

Detached villa. Mid C19, but in more than one build with C20 additions. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roofs. PLAN: Building complex of three conjoined elements, original near symmetrical central villa in double depth, with forward central gabled wing, but entry off centre right, opposite small projecting rear wing, and all to low-pitched roof with overhanging eaves and verges, but hipped in rear range. To this attached left, slightly set back, gabled wing with large late C20 front conservatory, and right wing, set gable to front, and centred to front part of original villa. EXTERIOR: All have two storeys, original range has one:one:three windows, all plain sash with architraves and keystones, and with stone balcony to gabled centre, with arched light, above three sash and two-light casement with transom light. To right of gable are four-pane sashes above gabled porch with panelled doors and fanlight. Unit has ridge stacks with bracketed cappings flanking centre gable, and further valley stack. Rear has large plain sashes, and doorway. Wing to left has three plain sashes above large C20 gabled conservatory, exposed rafter ends, and stack to left, deep overhanging gable verge. Rear has three sash, with door. Right wing in Tudor detail, with coped gable over three-light casement with transom, and with stopped drip at each level, and return front has central square bay, also with three-light at each level. Rear gable plain, with ridge stack. INTERIORS: Not inspected.
