Pair of houses in row. Early C18, some early C19 refenestration, with C20 alterations. MATERIALS: Coursed rubble, double Roman tile roof. EXTERIOR: Three storeys, each one window. No.16 has two-light stone mullioned casements with recessed ovolo mould surrounds and with straight drip at first floor, but late C19 plain sash to ground floor, with, to right, flush panelled door in chamfered stone surround. No.17 has sashes, twelve-pane at first and second floors, and sixteen-pane at ground floor, in flush surrounds, and, to left, C20 door in chamfered surround under flat stone hood on shaped brackets. Some remains of stone drip course above ground floor. Left gable coped, with two-stage ashlar stack, and large square central ridge stack raised in ashlar. Rear has full width tiled lean-to at ground floor with small vertical light in stone surround and with crude drip at first floor, and at eaves three-light late C20 replacement to No.16, and blocked single light and two-light C19 small-pane casement to No.17. INTERIORS: Not inspected. HISTORY: One of earlier pairs of houses remaining in High Street, with substantial remnants of original detailing.
