MOUNT ROAD (East side) Bella Vista 05/08/75
GV II
Large detached Italianate house. c1845. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, shallow pitched, hipped slate roof with moulded stacks. PLAN: Square plan with projections to right return and rear, and service wing (now separate property) to left. EXTERIOR: Two storeys, symmetrical six-window front. Cyma moulded eaves cornice, ground floor platband, cyma moulded plinth, semicircular arched windows, horizontal glazing. Front has rusticated quoins, paired in flat-arched recesses flank full height projecting porch with paired windows to first floor, ground floor cornice over wide fanlight with radial glazing bars and margin panes and two-vertical-panel door, returns have blind window to first floor and windows in semicircular arched recesses to ground floor. Projecting right return facing south similar in style with open pediment, rusticated quoins, paired windows with horizontal glazing bars. Projecting central rear block has open pediment with consoles to dentil cornice, rusticated quoins, two windows to first floor opening onto balcony with cast iron balustrade on stone brackets over three full height windows with some crown glass, door to centre, with steps down to garden. Set back range to left blank (with C20 garden shelter) above eaves stack has paired moulded shafts. Set back range to right has paired windows to both floors and similar stack to party wall with service wing. Four-window service wing two-storeys and lower with plain surrounds to semicircular arched windows. INTERIOR: Not inspected.
