GV II

Detached house. Early C19. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar or dressed stone, double Roman, pantile or concrete tile roofs. PLAN: Broad span main range set south/north with gable towards road, at north end two lower gabled ranges, smaller originally stable. EXTERIOR: Main east front, in two storeys, has varied fenestration, mainly replacement sashes, but with one small paired glazing-bar sash to left of ground floor, and with central cheeked porch. Coped gables with large square ashlar stack to each. West front of this part has two wide-spaced plain sashes at first floor above two with margin panes, and central panelled door with transom light. Lower wing at front has concrete tile roof and door, and slightly wider rear wing includes wide steel casement. INTERIOR: Not inspected. Previously known as Villa Rose, this may have been quarry manager's house, being more grand than most of the surrounding cottages, and with extensive private grounds.
