Reasons for Designation

Starcross War Memorial is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the C20;
* Architectural interest: the roughly-hewn cross is a simple yet elegant design.

History

The war memorial was erected following the end of the First World War to commemorate the members of the parish who died in the conflict. Further names were added after the end of the Second World War and again to commemorate the conflict in Cyprus in 1975.
