TOPSHAM,
The Goat Walk and Wall
GV II
1846 by Francis Davy, shipbuilder; the raised pavement added in 1910-11. Local grey limestone rubble with semi-circular stone coping; the surface of the pavement is later C20 concrete. A length of wall, about 260 metres long, at high water level of the beach. In 1910 an application to build the raised pavement was approved by the Board of Trade, to provide access across the beach at high water. The wall appears to have been raised at this time, it varies in height and there is a gateway with square piers with caps, a lintel and an iron gate.
