Reasons for Designation
West Lydford War Memorial is listed at Grade II, for the following principal reasons:
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the C20;
* Design interest: a well-executed stone cross;
* Group value: it has good group value with the church of St Peter (Grade II*), which forms its backdrop.

Details
A First World War memorial of c.1920.
MATERIALS AND PLAN: the memorial is understood to be constructed of concrete and is square on plan.
DESCRIPTION: the memorial consists of a carved celtic cross which sits atop a tapering shaft. These are on a tapered plinth, with a three-stepped base below.
On the east face of the plinth is the inscription, "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THE MEN FROM/ WEST LYDFORD/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 - 1919/ (NAMES)".
