Summary
First World War memorial, 1921, with later additions for the Second World War.
Reasons for Designation
Broad Chalke War Memorial, which stands to the south of the church of All Saints', is listed at Grade II for the following reasons:
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the C20;
* Design: a well-executed granite cross;
* Group value: with the nearby Grade I listed church of All Saints’.
History
Broad Chalke War Memorial was unveiled and dedicated on 17 April 1921 on land donated by Mr John Stephens.
In 2007, War Memorials Trust awarded a grant of £315 towards the cost of cleaning and re-lettering the memorial.
