Summary
A First World War memorial, erected probably in the 1920s.
Reasons for Designation
The war memorial in Northmoor Green is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Design interest: as a simple, yet dignified Celtic cross;
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifices it made in the conflicts of the C20;
* Group value: with the Grade II listed Church of St Peter and St John.
History
The aftermath of the First World War saw the biggest single wave of public commemoration ever with tens of thousands of war memorials erected across England. One such memorial was erected in the churchyard of the Church of St Peter and St John in Northmoor Green to commemorate the twelve local men who lost their lives during the conflict.
