Tree-Ring Analysis of Timbers from the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Hambledon, Hampshire

Author(s): Dr Martin Bridge

Several roofs of this church were investigated. Dated timbers from the inner (east) north aisle roof, and inner (east) nave roof, along with a single wallplate from the outer (west) nave roof, appear to represent a single phase of construction. The likely felling date range of these timbers is in the period AD 1348–80. The remaining dated timbers from the outer (west) nave roof represent a second phase of roof construction, the likely felling date range of these timbers being in the period AD 1445–77.
